Having been revealed internationally four months ago, Australian pricing and specifications for the 2018 Infiniti QX80 have been announced. Priced from an unchanged $110,900 plus on-road costs, the QX80 now boasts a new look, some new equipment and a slightly revised interior for a more luxurious feel.

As far as mid-life facelifts go, the QX80’s is significant with the updated styling instantly noticeable for Infiniti fans and car spotters alike. Infiniti is hopeful of the updated QX80’s impact on sales – its 2017 sales of 83 units was an increase of 36.1 percent on 2016. The 2018 Infiniti QX80 will be in showrooms at the end of March.

“This a great update for the Infiniti QX80, one that we think will attract new buyers to QX80 and to the brand,” said Infiniti product manager, Edward Trinh.

“The Infiniti QX80 offers a perfect blend of power, performance, luxury and safety – all key Infiniti brand attributes.

“Whether it’s the commanding exterior design, luxurious interior, or the abundance of advanced safety technologies, the Infiniti QX80 is the ideal vehicle for active families who want a premium drive experience every time they open the door.”

The centrepiece of the 2018 Infiniti QX80 update is the new exterior styling, which is subjectively much more handsome and modern than before. Most eye catching are the new LED headlights with Infiniti’s new signature LED daytime running light arrangement, yet the bonnet has changed shape and now sits 20mm higher and reaches 90mm further forward than before, which adds to the car’s aggressive styling. The rear end of the 2018 Infiniti QX80 has also changed, with new LED tailights also appearing more modern than before, whilst the massive 22-inch alloy wheels have changed in design.

The interior of the 2018 Infiniti QX80 has also undergone a revision, albeit one more subtle than the exterior. The interior itself has been updated with a revised upper instrument panel, along with new door panels, as well as a new centre console that extends to the rear. The gear lever is new, while even minor details such as the seat and door quilting. Even the car’s headrests haven’t escaped revisions, as has the stitching and piping within the cabin.

Mechanically, the 2018 Infiniti QX80 remains unchanged. It is still equipped with a 298kW/560Nm 5.6-litre V8 engine, and is capable of towing 3,500kg. Infiniti claims a 14.8L/100km fuel economy average for the QX80. The standard equipment list for the 2018 Infiniti QX80 is lengthy, with autonomous emergency braking, radar cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, automatic parking, heated and ventilated front seats, inbuilt satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity with USB inputs and Infiniti’s intelligent rear view mirror, which relays images from a camera to the rear view mirror.
