Barely a week after announcing equipment updates and a new drivetrain for the 2019 Ford Ranger, Ford Australia has also announced its pricing before its on sale date in October. Centrepiece of the update is a new optional in XLT and Wildtrak 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine with a new 10-speed automatic that’s used in the new Ranger Raptor.
Priced from $27,990 plus on-road costs (an increase of $400) the 2019 Ranger is better equipped than before, with new equipment such as autonomous emergency braking and HID headlights with LED daytime running lights available in certain models in the range.
According to Ford, the MY19 Ranger offers new or standardised equipment over its predecessor, for improved convenience, safety and refinement. “We know that Australians in this segment are looking for value for money with genuine, real-world capability,” said Graeme Whickman, President and CEO Ford Australia.
“The MY19 Ranger delivers greater capability and improvements across the lineup from suspension upgrades to Autonomous Emergency Braking.”
As before, four main specification points exist in the 2019 Ford Ranger lineup – the entry XL, mid-spec XLS, XLT and high-end Wildtrak, with the Raptor arriving towards the end of this year. As before, three bodystyles – a two-door single cab, a four-door super cab with reverse opening rear door and a four-door double cab. As before, a 118kW/360Nm 2.2-litre turbo diesel is available on XL models, whilst a larger 3.2-litre turbo diesel is available on XL, XLS, XLT and Wildtrak. A new 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine is available on XLT and Wildtrak models exclusively with a new 10-speed automatic, though the other engines are available with both six-speed manual and six-speed automatic gearboxes.
In terms of equipment, the 2019 Ford Ranger is one of the best equipped utes that money can buy. The entry level XL are equipped with 16-inch steel wheels, a reversing camera with rear parking sensors (pick-up models only), air-conditioning, power windows, automatic headlights, a 230V inverter, cruise control, a locking rear differential, a speed limiter and Ford’s SYNC1 infotainment system with a 4.2-inch screen and Bluetooth, USB and AUX inputs.
Step up to the Ranger XLS and buyers earn 16-inch alloy wheels, front foglamps, front parking sensors and carpeted floor coverings with carpet floor mats. An optional SYNC3 package is available for the XLS and includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Ford’s SYNC3 infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, DAB+ digital radio, inbuilt satellite navigation, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and start, chrome door handles and a chrome grille.
Above the XLS sits the XLT, which is the most popular Ranger model. Priced from $55,990 plus on-road costs, the XLT adds the XLS’ SYNC3 package, 17-inch alloy wheels, HID headlights with LED daytime running lights, a tow bar, electric-folding mirrors, privacy glass, auto-stop/start on the 3.2-litre manual and 2.0-litre bi-turbo automatic, a chrome rear step bar, rain-sensing wipers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearknob, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, front and rear parking sensors and a full-colour reversing camera.
The XLT is available with a $1,700 tech package, which adds autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, radar cruise control, automatic parking, traffic sign recognition, driver fatigue monitoring, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and automatic high beam. Also available is leather upholstery for $1,650 and black 18-inch alloy wheels for $750.
At the top of the 2019 Ford Ranger lineup for now is the Wildtrak, which is priced from $60,590 plus on-road costs. Only available as a double cab, the Wildtrak has been the halo Ranger model since this generation was launched. The Wildtrak adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate lock, the XLT’s tech package, partial leather with heated front seats, an 8-way powered driver’s seat, a tyre pressure monitor, a Wildtrak sports bar, puddle lamps in the mirrors and a roller shutter cover for the tray.
Available optionally are the same black 18-inch alloy wheels as the XLT for $500.
