2019 Hyundai Elantra on sale in Australia

After it was initially revealed in November, Hyundai Australia has launched the 2019 Hyundai Elantra in Australia. Priced from $21,490 plus on-road costs, the updated Elantra has undergone a significant exterior revision with new front and rear styling, as well as the renaming of the car’s model lineup – Go is at the bottom, Active in the middle and Sport and Sport Premium to be offered at a later date.

The interior of the Elantra has been given a more subtle upgrade, though a new touchscreen now features, as does a slight upgrade to the materials used and equipment such as AEB is available on models fitted with the six-speed automatic transmission.

“The attractively restyled 2019 Elantra builds on its all-rounder appeal, with a compelling new Go range-opener, a value-packed Active variant, and performance focused Sport models” Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, JW Lee said.

“With a SmartSense safety pack, Hyundai Auto Link, and upgraded infotainment systems the 2019 Elantra is an appealing offering, with the reassurance of our five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty, and Lifetime Service Plan,” he said.

Featuring the same 112kW/192Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine as the previous Elantra and Kia Cerato, the facelifted Elantra will include the same 150kW/265Nm 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as the pre-updated SR soon. The model lineup for the 2019 Hyundai Elantra has changed, with the Go now sitting as the entry point to the lineup, and the formerly-base model Active now in the middle.

Standard equipment on the Elantra Go includes 15-inch steel wheels, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, halogen daytime running lights, automatic headlights, cruise control, tinted windows, air conditioning and power windows and mirrors. The Active then adds 16-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen with inbuilt satellite navigation, DAB+ digital radio, auto-folding mirrors, an Infinity sound system and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear lever.

The Elantra does not feature autonomous emergency braking as standard, though it can be selected as part of the optional (for automatics only) $1,700 Smart Sense package, which also includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, driver attention alert, lane keep assist with lane departure warning and auto-folding mirrors on the Go.

Go manual: $21,490
Go automatic: $23,790
Active automatic: $25,990

Premium paint: $495
