2019 Mazda CX-9: Australian pricing details

Mazda Australia have launched an updated version of their flagship SUV, the CX-9, not long after updating the MX-5 and introducing the CX-8. In dealerships now, the 2019 Mazda CX-9 brings a worthwhile upgrade to the infotainment system with the first application of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring in models with the company’s MZD Connect infotainment system.

The company has also introduced a new Azami LE model with unique trimmings such as auburn red Nappa leather upholstery, and all other models earn more standard equipment.

Managing Director of Mazda Australia, Vinesh Bhindi, said New Mazda CX-9 defines a new meaning for affordable luxury.

“This update for Mazda CX-9 adds a new level of refinement to an already well-equipped and sophisticated vehicle, with the SUV gaining more standard safety and convenience features to further lift its standing in the class,” said Mr Bhindi.

“Since its 2016 launch, Mazda CX-9 sales have always skewed to high-grade AWD variants, so we added Azami LE to give those looking for luxury even greater choice in the range.”

Priced $1,100 higher than before thanks to added standard equipment across the range, the 2019 Mazda CX-9 is better equipped than ever before. Previously reserved for only the top spec Azami, features such as adaptive cruise control with stop & go functionality, a heads-up display, automatic high beam, lane departure warning and tyre pressure monitoring are now standard across the whole CX-9 range.

Smartphone mirroring technologies Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also now standard across the CX-9 range, and will also be made standard across the Mazda Australia range in the coming months. All owners of older Mazda models with the MZD Connect screens – the 2014 Mazda 3 onwards – will also be able to upgrade their screens with both systems for a yet-t0-be-announced fee from the end of the year.

Upper-spec Touring (from $51,390 plus on-road costs) and GT (from $59,390 plus on-road costs) models receive the same extra equipment as the Sport, while the former-top spec Azami (from $60,990) now offers a 360-degree parking camera from the CX-5, CX-8 and updated Mazda 6. The Azami also picks up ventilated front seating, a windshield wiper de-icer, a heated steering wheel, a frameless rear-view mirror and a 7-inch digital driver’s display.

At the top of the range is the AWD-only Azami LE (from $66,490 plus on-road costs). The LE adds Nappa leather upholstery in Chroma Brown, real wood interior trim, LED interior ambient lighting and contrast brown stitching for the steering wheel.

All models are equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, and fuel consumption is rated at 8.4L/100km for FWD models and 8.8L/100km for AWD-equipped cars.
