2019 Skoda Fabia on sale in Australia

After its initial reveal at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the 2019 Skoda Fabia has gone on sale in Australia priced from $16,990 drive away. A light styling refresh more than an all-new car, Skoda’s smallest car in Australia has been given a freshness injection to help it compete in the highly competitive light car segment.

In addition to the styling changes, the company has given the car more technology as an option for the first time, with equipment such as LED lighting, blind-spot monitoring with rear traffic alert and rear USB ports now available.

According to the company’s Australian online configurator, pricing for the 2019 Skoda Fabia remains unchanged compared with the 2018 model. Starting at $16,990 drive away for the entry level 70TSI with a five-speed manual transmission, the most popular Fabia will continue to be the $19,990 drive away 81TSI, which is equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The sportier Monte Carlo is priced from $25,490 drive away, while wagon models are available for $1,500 more than each hatchback variant.

Both models continue to use the Volkswagen Polo’s 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, which makes 70kW and 175Nm in the 70TSI, or 81kW and 200Nm in the 81TSI. The 1.0TSI is a new engine to the Fabia having debuted in it earlier this year, and fuel economy remains unchanged from the 2018 model – the 70TSI manual uses 4.5L/100km on a combined cycle, and the 81TSI DSG 4.7L/100km.

For 2019 the Skoda Fabia lineup remains unchanged. Standard equipment remains similar to 2018, with autonomous emergency braking, 15-inch steel wheels, a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker sound system, LED daytime running lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearknob, as well as heated mirrors and Skoda’s ‘simply clever’ package with a cabin bin, boot nets and a configurable boot all standard equipment. Wagon models also have silver roof rails.

Monte Carlo models then add 17-inch alloy wheels with sports suspension, cruise control with a speed limiter, a centre armrest, front foglights, privacy glass, LED tailights and many Monte Carlo design touches including sportier bumpers, sports seats in red and black cloth trim, gloss black highlights and a flat-bottomed steering wheel with red stitching.

Skoda has extended the available options for the 2019 Skoda Fabia, with more technology now available. The $1,800 Sports Pack with 17-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension, rear parking sensors, cruise control, a flat-bottom leather steering wheel, privacy glass and a front centre armrest continues as before, as does the $3,600 Premium Sports Pack, which then adds adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, climate control, fatigue detection, DAB+ digital radio and two rear USB charging ports. Both packages are available only on the 70TSI and 81TSI.

Monte Carlo buyers can choose the $1,800 Tech Pack, which adds the upgraded content of the Premium Sports Package, and buyers of any 2019 Skoda Fabia can now choose the $1,800 Vision Pack ($1,400 on the Monte Carlo), which adds cornering LED headlights, LED tailights, blind-spot monitoring with rear traffic alert, front foglamps, an auto-dimming rear mirror and automatic headlights and wipers.

Separate options are still available such as $500 premium paint, $390 cruise control on the 70TSI and 81TSI, a $1,000 panoramic glass roof and $950 satellite navigation.
