Pricing and specifications for one of the most anticipated cars of 2017, the Kia Stinger, has been revealed ahead of the car’s local launch in September. Whilst pricing and specifications for the 2.0-litre turbo petrol model are yet to be announced, the Stinger V6 has the bigger hype surrounding it and is expected to be the bigger seller of the two engine choices.
The Singer V6 range starts from $48,990 plus on-road costs, putting it in the crosshairs of other sports sedans for around $50-60,000. The Stinger is widely anticipated to be an almost-direct replacement for the Australian-made Holden Commodore in both size, performance and dynamics – it is a large liftback sedan powered by a 3.3-litre bi-turbo V6 and is rear-wheel drive.
“There is a belief that any entry-level model will be, for want of a better description, sparse,” Kia Motors Australia Chief Operating Officer, Damien Meredith, said.
“That is not the case with the Stinger. The S has the same brilliant 3.3-litre bi-turbo engine as the GT, the same 8-speed gearbox with sports paddles as the GT and the same ability to sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds.
“It simply represents outstanding value _ starting with the S but stretching across the range.” Mr. Meredith said.
Available in three specification levels, the local Stinger V6 range will open with the entry-level $48,990 S model. Standard equipment on the S includes 18-inch alloy wheels, seven airbags, LED daytime running lights, an eight-way powered driver’s seat and six-way passenger seat, artificial leather trim, rear traffic alert, a 7.0-inch infotainment screen with six speakers and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera and two 12V and two USB inputs.
Most importantly, even the entry-level Stinger V6 S arrives with the car’s 272kW/510Nm bi-turbo 3.3-litre V6, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Brembo brakes and a mechanical limited-slip differential are also standard equipment across the V6 range.
One specification higher is the Stinger V6 Si, which includes forward collision alert with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, 19-inch alloy wheels, lane-keep assist, driver attention alert, a larger 8.0-inch infotainment screen, underfloor storage and netting and a nine-speaker sound system. Pricing for the Stinger Si starts $7,000 more expensive than the S at $55,990.
Sitting atop the local Stinger range is the Stinger V6 GT. The GT adds blind-spot monitoring, a heads-up display, adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beam, full Nappa leather seat trim with electric front-seat side bolstering, memory front seats, alloy pedals, a suede roof lining, wireless phone charging, a 7.0-inch colour driver display and a 15-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
Kia Australia is said to be holding a significant number of pre-orders for the Stinger, with the majority of orders believed to be held for the top-spec V6 GT model. Kia has not yet announced pricing or specifications for the 2.0-litre turbo model as yet, though its equipment and specification levels are expected to largely mirror the V6.
