Mercedes GLC Coupe priced from $77k in Australia

The 2017 Mercedes GLC Coupe will arrive in Australia in November this year priced from $77,100. At launch, three four-cylinder models will be offered, with hotter AMG powertrains to follow.

Competing with the BMW X4 and Range Rover Evoque, the GLC Coupe is a more rakishly-styled variant of the best-selling Mercedes GLC SUV.

Daimler’s head of design Gorden Wagener has described the fastback exterior as an embodiment of the ‘hot and cool’ bipolarity currently influencing Mercedes styling.

Petrol and diesel power will be available and the GLC Coupe will only be offered with 4MATIC all-wheel-drive.

Equipment is more generous than the more upright GLC, as it should be – the ‘coupe’ body style is about an $11,000 upgrade.

Boot space of 500 litres is just 50 litres off the standard car. That expands to 1,400 litres with the back seats folded.

The entry-level car is the GLC 220 d ($77,100), which uses a single turbo diesel four making 125kW and 400Nm.

Stepping up to the sole petrol at launch, the GLC 250 ($80,100), buys the quickest of the three with outputs of 155kW and 350Nm.

The top-spec diesel is the twin-turbo GLC 250 d ($82,100), making 150kW and a stout 500Nm of torque.

Both ‘250’ spec cars add full leather trim, keyless entry and start, and an additional driver assistance package.
