2018 Peugeot 5008 Australian pricing + specs

Peugeot’s local product renaissance will continue in February 2018 with the launch of the second generation Peugeot 5008. Instead of the previous MPV-style 5008, the new model is more of an SUV and will compete with the Skoda Kodiaq as well as seven-seat versions of the Honda CR-V, Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander.

In addition to sitting on the same platform, the new Peugeot 5008 follows the same styling and interior theme as the smaller 3008 medium SUV, and unlike the 3008, will be offered in three specification levels Down Under – Allure, GT-Line and GT – with the same 1.6-litre turbo petrol and 2.0-litre turbo diesel powertrain options.

Priced from $42,990 plus on-road costs (the same entry price point as the Kodiaq), the 5008 has no real entry level model by deciding to miss out on the Active spec offered in the 3008. Instead, the 5008 range kicks off with the Allure and equipment such as 18-inch alloy wheels, Peugeot’s i-Cockpit digital dials, dual-zone climate control, an 8.0-inch infotainment system with inbuilt satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, DAB digital radio, keyless entry and start and unlike the 3008, three individual chairs in the second row and two in the third.

There’s also some active safety equipment offered on the Allure, with autonomous emergency braking, radar cruise control with stop and go functionality, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition all standard equipment.

Allure models are equipped with the same 121kW/240Nm 1.6-litre turbo petrol as the 3008 range, with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive the only drivetrain options available.

Above the Allure sits the GT-Line (from $46,990 plus on-road costs), which is fitted with more equipment such as LED headlights with automatic high beam, blind-spot monitoring, lane keep assist, driver attention alert, and electric tailgate and some exterior styling treatments, including a contrast black roof and mirrors and sportier bumpers.

The GT-Line is fitted with the same 1.6-litre turbo drivetrain as the Allure and it is unclear if the 5008 GT-Line will be offered with the same options as the 3008 GT-Line, namely an electric sunroof and a Nappa leather package.

2018 Peugeot 5008 seats folded

At the top of the 5008 range is the GT (from $52,990 plus on-road costs), which is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, leather seating with heated front and an electric/massaging driver’s seat, Alcantara dashboard and door trims, chrome mirror caps and larger wheel arch extensions.

Instead of the 1.6-litre turbo petrol of lower models, the 5008 GT is fitted with a punchier 133kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo diesel, with the same six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive drivetrain.

2018 Peugeot 5008 bootspace

Dimensionally, the new Peugeot 5008 fits around the Skoda Kodiaq. It’s 4641mm long, 1844mm wide, 1646m tall and features a 2840mm wheelbase – around 50mm shorter, 40mm skinner and 30mm shorter than its Czech competitor. With the third row folded, luggage space is rated at 952-litres and a huge 2,042-litres with the second row of seats folded – 37-litres more than the Kodiaq.

Those who pre-order a 5008 receive a free accessories package worth $2,200, which includes a choice of sporting gear, along with roof bars to suit surf, cycling, golf or snow applications. A wind deflector, rubber floor and boot mats and a boot net are also included.
