2018 Hyundai i30 on sale in Australia

Despite not being on the market for even a year, Hyundai has chosen to update its i30 range for 2018. The 2018 Hyundai i30 range is in dealerships now, and offers a wider range with more equipment to small car buyers. In addition, the brand now offers petrol power on all models – something it admits may have hindered higher-end i30 sales.

The Hyundai i30 range regularly forms a high portion of the brand’s local sales, and Hyundai is hoping that the range will further bolster the car’s sales. 2018 is shaping up to be a significant year for Hyundai in Australia, with Kona small SUV sales coming on form, with a new Santa Fe launching in July, a facelifted Tucson not long afterwards and the Ioniq in the fourth quarter.

The 2018 Hyundai i30 range has been widened, with 120kW 2.0-litre petrol power now available in Elite and Premium models, which were previously diesel-only. The i30 Go, a new base model, was added at the end of 2017, whilst all models now benefit from more standard equipment. The i30 Active now features a leather steering wheel and gearknob, whilst Premium and SR Premium models pick up a seven-speaker Infinity sound system. The i30 Premium also earns the same LED tailights already offered on the SR Premium.

Also new to the 2018 Hyundai i30 range is a new SmartSense option package, which is available for $1,750 on Go and Active models equipped with automatic transmissions. This adds autonomous emergency braking with forward collision warning, lane keep assist, radar cruise control with stop and go functionality, blind-spot monitoring with rear traffic alert, driver attention alert, an upgraded 4.2-inch driver’s information display, a redesigned centre console with an electric handbrake and rear air vents as well as electric-folding mirrors with LED side indicators.

This option package endows the entry level i30 models with equipment they’ve previously not been offered with, and this alone will put the i30 on more shopping lists – especially first cars for safety-conscious parents.
