2019 BMW X1 and X2 add value for Australia

BMW Australia has announced 2019 model year upgrades for its X1 and X2 small SUV offerings, which include added standard equipment, as well as price cuts for some models in order to compete better in the growing segment.

Due in Australia in January because of an October production commencement date, the updated BMW SUVs will join the still-new X3 and X4 twins, as well as the all-new X5, sitting in local BMW showrooms.

“BMW recognises these segments as key in the Australian market,” said BMW Group Australia CEO, Vikram Pawah.

“It is also an area that is constantly evolving in terms of technology, specification and customer preference.

“BMW prides itself on being at the forefront of such topics. With the additional specification now found across the X1 and X2 ranges, as well as sharper pricing on key models, we continue to provide compelling offers in this space,” he said.

Available from October 2018 production and reaching Australia in January 2019, all BMW X1 and X2 models are now equipped with the brand’s larger 8.8-inch touchscreen with the iDrive 6 operating system. They’re also equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, which was previously a $479 option. In addition to that, all models are now equipped with a colour heads-up display – the three options used to be a package – though radar cruise control remains an optional extra.

Surprisingly, price cuts accompany the 2019 X1 and X2 ranges. The X1 sDrive20i now starts at $50,900 plus on-road costs, and the xDrive25i now at $60,900 – $3,700 and $600 less than before, respectively. The entry level X2 xDrive18i now starts at $46,900 plus on-road costs – a $3,000 cut – while the whole X2 range is now equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels.
