Lexus Australia has revealed local pricing and specifications for the 2019 Lexus UX ahead of its arrival into dealerships later this month. Priced from $44,450 plus on-road costs, the UX is the brand’s first small SUV and will compete with models such as the Volvo XC40, Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Jaguar E-Pace.
Offered with two drivetrain choices – a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid – and both front- and all-wheel drive, Lexus Australia is hoping that the UX continues the brand’s local sales success in the luxury car market.
Lexus chief executive Scott Thompson said the arrival of the UX range with affordable pricing would enable the luxury lifestyle brand to introduce an entirely new customer base to its “experience amazing” commitment.
“The UX delivers a fresh and contemporary appeal to young buyers seeking new and exciting experiences relevant to their lifestyles,” Mr Thompson said.
“For many of them, this will not only be their first Lexus vehicle, but also their first entry into the luxury segment,” he said.
Initially revealed at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the 2019 Lexus UX is the brand’s first small SUV. It’s based on the same platform as the Toyota C-HR, and uses the new ‘Dynamic Force’ 126kW 2.0-litre petrol engine as the new Toyota Corolla. Available optionally is the UX250h 131kW 2.0-litre hybrid variant, which can also be had in all-wheel drive and all models are mated to a CVT automatic transmission, which uses the same launch gear system as the Corolla. The combined fuel economy for the UX250h is rated at just 4.5L/100km.
Like other Lexus models, three model grades of the UX are available in Australia. The entry level Luxury model is priced from $44,450 plus on-road costs, and is well equipped for the money – the full suite of the Lexus Safety System including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high beam, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, all-speed adaptive cruise control, lane trace assist and traffic sign recognition.
The UX Luxury also has a 10.3-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation, DAB+ digital radio, an eight-speaker sound system, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, 8-way power-adjustable front seats with heating, a power adjustable steering column and dual-zone climate control.
Stepping up to the 2019 Lexus UX Sports Luxury (from $53,000 plus on-road costs) adds leather upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels with run flat tyres, ventilated front seats, a 13-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, adaptive high beam, a 360º parking camera and higher-grade interior finishes.
The top spec UX F Sport (from $53,450 plus on-road costs) then adds different 18-inch alloy wheels, sportier details such as the seats, steering wheel, body styling, gear lever and pedals as well as adaptive suspension, five driving modes, rear performance damping and active sound control.
Like other Lexus models, some option packages are available for each model grade of the 2019 Lexus UX. The Luxury is available with the $1,550 Enhancement Pack 1, which has a hands-free tailgate, wireless phone charging, alloy scuff plates, headlight washers, rear privacy glass and cornering headlights or a $4,050 Enhancement Pack 2 with further adds a sunroof.
The F Sport is available with the $2,500 Enhancement Pack 1 with an electric sunroof or a $5,600 Enhancement Pack 2 with further adds the 13-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, a colour heads-up display, a 360º degree parking camera and a smart key card.
Sports Luxury buyers have the choice of a single Enhancement Pack for $3,500, which adds an electric sunroof, a colour heads-up display and a smart key card.
