Land Rover Australia has revealed detailed pricing and specification for the eagerly awaited all-new Defender. It’s heavily customisable, as you would expect, so customers will be able to tailor the Defender to their lifestyle right from the dealership.
What’s exciting is that the entry-level Defender 110 D200 starts at $69,626 ($77,344 driveaway), though have it your way and the price can climb above $140,000. A full price list can be found at the end of this article.
Land Rover has experienced production delays due to Covid19, so while petrol-powered 110s will be available shortly, diesel offerings have been delayed.
Kicking off the Australian offerings will be the base-model Defender 110 D200. Everything you need to go bush is included; high and low range transfer box, adjustable air suspension, resilient rubber flooring, tough-looking 19-inch alloy wheels, a terrain response system and wade-depth sensing.
Comfort and safety-wise, the base model doesn’t do too badly, with LED headlights, DAB, navigation, a 10-inch touchscreen, leather-appointed steering wheel, AEB, a 360-degree camera and regular cruise control.
However, it’s the only Defender specified with Land Rover’s P200 powertrain, two-litre turbo diesel with outputs of 147kW and 430Nm, an eight-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel-drive.
Australia isn’t receiving the new Ford Bronco, so really the Defender’s closest off-road competitors will be high-spec dual cab utes like the Nissan Navara N-Trek Warrior. It’s likely that many Defenders will end up leading city-lifestyles though, where the intriguing styling may have to battle with the Discovery Sport.
Moving up the tree to the S which starts at $83,435 ($91,843 driveaway) for the more powerful 147kW/430Nm D240 diesel. Above the base model, it adds heated mirrors, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats, leather-appointed shifter and a set of six-double-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels.
From the S up, Land Rover also offers the choice of a P400 powertrain, a turbocharged straight-six good for 294kW, 550Nm and a 0-100km/h time of 6.1 seconds, if you need that sort of thing. Efficiency slips to 9.9l/100km, too.
The mid-range SE starts at $90,936 ($99,719 driveaway) and gets larger 20-inch five-spoke alloys, premium LED headlights, LED taillights, a Clearsight camera-based rear mirror, ebony grain leather seats, and a Meridian sound system. Safety is bolstered further with the additional blindspot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert.
Topping out the traditional range will be the HSE, only available with the P400 powertrain for $112,535 ($122,398 driveaway) with 20-inch multi-spoke alloys, matrix LEDs, a panoramic sunroof, heated and cooled seats appointed in Windsor leather, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition.
Land Rover will also offer a Defender First edition for $102,135 ($111,478 driveaway) which largely mirrors the D240 SE grade, though it gets a black exterior styling pack with contrast roof and bonnet, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Rounding out the line-up is the top-spec $136,736 ($147,809 driveaway) Defender 110 X available exclusively with the P400 petrol ‘six, the snazziest Defender gets 20-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, more advanced terrain control 2 system, and orange brake callipers.
Land Rover offers a suite of options packs to further tailor the new Defender to your lifestyle. There are two on-road focused options – the Urban package adds a bright rear scuff plate and metal pedals, and the Country pack adds a loadspace partition, portable rinse system and mudflaps.
The more off-road focused choices are the Expedition pack – made up of a spare wheel cover, intelligent side-mounted gear carrier and a raised air intake for improved wading ability. The Adventure pack sees a Seat backpack, portable rinse system and nifty integrated air compressor.
Land Rover’s new Defender 110 should be arriving in Australia this month, though only with petrol initially as there is a production hold-up on the diesel engines due to the global Coronavirus pandemic.
