Nissan’s new EV Micra confirmed for a 2025 global release

  • Nissan has confirmed that its new Micra will be ready for global release this year. Offering a potential low-cost entry point for the brand’s growing EV lineup here in Australia.
  • Built on the new Renault 5’s CMF-BEV EV platform, the Micra will likely share the same 52kWh and 40kWh powerplant options, with a maximum estimated range of 305 and 399 kilometres respectively, according to the WLTP standard.
  • The Micra is expected to cost between $30,000 and 40,000AUD, with a Japanese market price range of 2.8 million to 3.5 million Yen announced by BestCar. The Micra’s main competition in Australia will be the GWM Aura, Volkswagen ID1, and BYD Dolphin
  • The Micra will be sold alongside the Nissan Leaf and will fill the void as an affordable, compact electric vehicle for Nissan. The 2025/26 Leaf is expected to return to the global market as a compact SUV.

Volkswagen ID.2 X confirmed as EV alternative to T-Cross small SUV

  • The Volkswagen ID.2 X has been announced today alongside a teaser image. The ID.2 X is a raised, soft-roader version of the ID.2 and will be a fully electric alternative to the Volkswagen T-Cross.
  • Built on the same MEB Entry platform as the Volkswagen ID.2, ID.1 and many more, the ID.2 X is likely to have a 38kWh and 56kWh battery available, with a 320 and 450 kilometer maximum range respectively.

  • The ID.2 X will mainly rival the Toyota bZ4X and Hyundai Kona in Australia. Not much can be confirmed regarding pricing, but it is known that the sister ID.2 will cost roughly $39,000 AUD, and the ID.2 X will likely cost more.
  • The Volkswagen ID naming convention follows a shift from the brand to designate fully electric vehicles with more conventional, pedestrian names.

Jaguar Type 00 sedan rendered based on spy shots

  • Following detailed spy shots of a Jaguar Type 00 performance testing in Sweden, Nikita Chuiko of kolesa.ru has created a render of what the production Type 00 may look like.
  • Originally unveiled to the public by Jaguar as a coupé, it would seem that a more conventional 4 door sedan variant of the Type 00 will be the first rendition available in global markets.

  • As an upmarket, fully electric luxury sedan, the Type 00 will be competing with the Porsche Taycan, BMW i7, and more.
  • The Type 00 is the first vehicle unveiled as part of Jaguar’s New Era, under the design philosophy of ‘copy nothing’. Not much information has been revealed surrounding the Type 00, aside from two colour variants and a fully electric powertrain.

Peugeot may re-introduce the 208 GTi as an EV

  • Peugeot’s 2025 E-Lion day provided an opportunity for new CEO Alain Favey to outline his eagerness to connect Peugeot to its heritage, and embraced speculation surrounding a possible 208 GTi revival.
  • If a new generation of 208 GTi were to be confirmed for the global market, it would almost certainly be a full electric EV built on the same platform as the e-208.
  • Peugeot has not sported a GTi badge on any of its new cars since the final sales of the 308 GTi in 2021.

  • There could be more to the 208 GTi than hopeful speculation; parent company Stellantis already produces similar hot EV’s including the Lancia Ypsilon HF, Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce, and  Abarth 500e.
  • If the 208 GTi uses the same powerplant as the Lancia Ypsilon HF, it will come with a single 177kW motor mated to a 51kWh battery. This means a maximum range of approximately 400 Kilometers.
