Jaguar Type 00: Radical electric GT coupe heralds British brand’s bold new era

Sleek electric coupe will transform into four-door rival to the Porsche Taycan in 2025, with up to 770km range targeted

The Jaguar Type 00 has been revealed as a dramatic-looking concept that ushers in a bold new era for the 90-year-old British brand.

Jaguar is reinventing itself after decades of varying struggles and the Type 00 provides visual pointers to a four-door luxury sedan that will be revealed in 2025 to rival the Porsche Taycan and spearhead a new range of all-electric models.

The Type 00, which Jaguar says is pronounced ‘Type zero zero’, was revealed overnight at Miami Art Week and demonstrates how Jaguar aims to live up to its new “Copy nothing” marketing tag with its next-generation products.

It also shows that the brand isn’t completely severing ties with its past with the reapplication of the Type prefix in the concept’s model name, as well as the coupe’s long bonnet that harks back to classic Jags such as the E-Type sports car and XJS coupe.

Showcased in Miami Pink and London Blue exterior colours, the Type 00 features a high waistline and relatively shallow glasshouse – with invisible A-pillars helping to create a wraparound windscreen effect.

Bluff and imposing front and rear ends incorporate Jaguar’s new horizontal ‘Strike Through’ graphic, with the latter integrating full-width LED tail-lights.

The raked roofline runs into a windowless tailgate, with rear vision provided to the driver via rear-facing cameras that subtly deploy from brass ingots on the front flanks. These also feature Jaguar’s famous ‘Leaper’ motif.

The concept sits on huge, 23-inch wheels that also feature the ‘Strike Through’ graphic

Dihedral doors are hinged at the base of the A-pillars, opening to reveal a strikingly minimalist interior that perhaps provides fewer clues to how the production model’s cabin will look when unveiled next year.

The concept and its 2025 production version sit on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform, which brings a long wheelbase that is expected to be even longer on the four-door showroom model.

Jaguar has confirmed a target WLTP battery range of up to 770km, along with a rapid-charging claim of 321km in just 15 minutes.

While no other details have been provided, the Type 00 is expected to feature a 100kW-plus battery.
