The Fiat 500 range will soon gain an electric variant with 320km of range and a reported $52k price tag
Fiat will soon release an electric version of its small 500 hatchback in Australia called the 500e.
The 500e sits on an entirely new platform than its combustion counterpart and has been reported by a fellow Australian publication to start from $52,500 before on-road costs in Australia, and will be available with a relatively small 37.3kWh (usable) battery pack, powering a single electric motor.
Despite having a small battery, the upcoming Fiat 500e will have an estimated range of 320km (WLTP), meaning it will have a greater range than its biggest competitor, the Mini Cooper SE electric hatch, which can travel up to 200km (WLTP) on a single charge.
The Fiat 500e also has a bigger battery than the Mini’s tiny 28.9kWh usable battery pack.
Other competitors in this space include the Nissan Leaf hatch and SUVs such as the MX-30 Electric, Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV.
An hotter Abarth performance variant has been revealed by the brand, and while it’s not yet confirmed for our market, it is expected to join the 500e in Australia at some point.
The new Fiat 500e is set to launch in Australia during the first half of 2023.
The launch edition of the Fiat 500e is likely to be the high-spec La Prima grade, with official specifications yet to be released for Australian buyers
In the UK, this grade is powered by an 87kW/220Nm front-mounted electric motor. The 500e La Prima will feature a large 10.25-inch central touchscreen, a JBL sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, leather seats, an Alcantara-trimmed steering wheel, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and tail lights and seven airbags.
Two packs are available for UK-spec 500es. A Fiat co-driver pack is standard and features a reversing camera, adaptive cruise control, lane centering and traffic jam assist, a 360-degree camera and blind spot warning.
This pack is likely to be standard on all Australian-delivered 500e cars.
A winter pack is also available and includes a heated windscreen and heated front seats.
