Lexus RZ 2023: more affordable options not planned for Australia

Lexus’ Australian boss reveals no plans are in place to sell a cheaper RZ variant locally

Lexus Australia isn’t looking to introduce a more affordable version of its all-electric RZ midsize SUV to its range.

This information has come from a recent interview that Chasing Cars conducted with Lexus Australia CEO John Pappas.

The Lexus RZ 450e is sold exclusively in a dual-motor configuration

Currently, the RZ 450e starts at $123,000 before on-road costs in Australia for the entry-level Luxury variant.

Despite being the entry-level model, this RZ 450e gets a motor on each axle, forming an all-electric all-wheel-drive system that produces 230kW.

Since the introduction of electric vehicles, we’ve seen manufacturers introduce single-motor variants to increase affordability.

When asked as to whether or not Lexus Australia is looking to introduce a single-motor variant of the RZ, Pappas was quick to say no, but didn’t rule out the idea for the future.

“No, we don’t have any plans at this stage – and again, I say at this stage – on bringing out another grade of RZ,” he said

Pappas’ stance on the matter seems to fall inline with what we’ve seen from Lexus on a global scale in relation to the RZ.

Even in North America, which is famously Lexus’ strongest market, the RZ is sold in a single dual-motor, 450e grade.
