Pricing for the upcoming Polestar 4 electric SUV will start from $81,500 before on-road costs
Pricing for the Polestar 4 electric SUV has been sensationally revealed several months ahead of schedule because of a leak from an industry pricing guide.
Two grades of the BMW X4-sized Polestar 4 will initially be available to Australian buyers, with both sharing a relatively large 94kWh (usable) long-range battery.
The range will kick off with the sharply-priced Long Range Single Motor with rear-wheel drive (RWD), priced at $81,500 before on-road costs and any incentives.
Going with RWD nets 200kW of power (268 horsepower) and 343Nm of torque – good for a 0-100km/h sprint of 7.1 seconds.
Upgrading to the Long Range Dual Motor adds an additional, identical power source to the front axle for doubled total outputs of 400kW (536 horsepower) and 686Nm of torque.
The AWD model effectively halves acceleration times with the 0-100km/h sprint coming up in just 3.8 seconds.
Pricing for the AWD model is $93,050 – making the huge increase in performance a reasonable $11,550 upcharge.
Key rivals to the Polestar 4 include the Tesla Model Y (from $65,400), the BMW iX3 (from $89,100), and the Volvo C40 (from $78,990).
Both Polestar 4 variants make use of a nickel manganese cobalt 400-volt battery promising peak charging speeds of 200kW (DC) and 22kW (AC).
WLTP driving range ratings are 600km for the RWD model and 560km for the AWD – with the dual-motor car able to switch off one motor for more efficient cruising.
Beneath the coupe-style SUV is Polestar’s new SEA platform, which is shared with cousin brands Volvo and Geely.
The Polestar 4 has no rear window – instead, rearward visibility is only by a digital rear view mirror.
As is typical for Polestar, various option packages are available to complement the standard specification of the Chinese-made SUV, including:
Option pricing is marginally higher for the AWD model as that vehicle is not priced below the luxury car tax (LCT) threshold.
Six colours will be available at launch: magnesium (white, no cost), space (black, $1750), electron (grey, $1750), storm (grey, $1750), snow (white, $2300), and gold ($2300).
Standard features include:
Because these specifications resulted from an industry leak, it is possible there will be some alterations before final announcements are made in February 2024.
