It’s likely that this EX30 SUV will land in Australia before the end of the year
Volvo has finally given the world a better look at its upcoming EX30 SUV, which will likely become the entry point for the brand’s electric SUV range when it goes on sale.
Alongside posting a teaser online, Volvo confirmed that the EX30 will be officially unveiled on June 7, 2023.
It’s also likely that the EX30 will be landing in Australia within 2023, with a Volvo Australia spokesperson confirming to Chasing Cars just last month that a “new small size SUV [is] destined to be with us by the end of this year.”
Once on sale, Volvo’s EX30 would face competition from the likes of the BMW iX1 and the Mercedes-Benz EQA.
Given Volvo’s historic naming conventions, Chasing Cars would expect the EX30 to sit beneath the C40 and XC40 in the range, and possess a smaller footprint.
Though the video gives little away, it shows the taillights and some interesting LED light design at the front of the SUV.
Chasing Cars has previously reported that the EX30 is expected to share its underpinnings with the Geely Smart #1, which uses the Sustainable Experience Architecture platform.
If it’s sharing a platform with the Smart #1, it could also share the car’s 62kWh (usable) battery that can provide a range of up to 420km between charges according to the WLTP testing cycle.
The arrival of the EX30 SUV will no doubt be working towards Volvo Australia’s goal of having an exclusively electric line-up by 2026.
Currently, Volvo Australia’s electric line-up consists of the C40 Recharge and the XC40 Recharge, and the brand has previously confirmed that the EX90 will be here by the end of 2024.
