Both BMW M3 and M4 models will receive a 50 Jahre special edition variant to celebrate 50 years of hot M products, but only the M4 is coming to Australia
BMW is celebrating 50 years of the M division by releasing 50 Jahre special edition variants of the popular M3 sports sedan and M4 coupe – but in extremely limited numbers.
Only 25 50 Jahre models will come to Australia and exclusively in M4 guise at the cost of $201,900 before on-road costs – $19,400 more than the M4 Competition xDrive currently on sale in Australia.
The M4 coupe will also be available in limited numbers for the Chinese market. 500 50 Jahre edition BMW M3s will be sold in the US and Canada.
While the M3 and M4 50 Jahre cars will not see major improvements or enhancements made to the S58 twin-turbocharged straight-six found in both cars, the special edition vehicles will likely be highly sought after thanks to key design differences and rarity.
BMW M is bringing back several classic colours from the past for the 50 Jahre cars. In Europe, the BMW M4 will be available in Carbon Black, Macao Blue, Brands Hatch Grey, Imola Red and San Marino Blue. Both the 19-inch front and 20-inch rear alloy wheels will be finished in exclusive colours of Orbit Grey Matte and Gold Bronze matte.
For the Chinese market, the BMW M4 50 Jahre edition will be finished in Fire Orange or Stratus Grey which represents the year of the tiger in China.
Inside all of the special edition M3 and M4s, there will be a metal plaque on the centre console, door sill panels inscribed with the ‘50 Jahre’ lettering and the same lettering is imprinted on the sports seats. Optional carbon bucket seats are also available.
For the US and Canadian markets, the BMW M3 50 Jahre variants will be available with the choice of five exterior colours: Vermillion Red, Techno Violet, Interlagos Blue, Fire Orange and Limerock Grey.
Forged grey alloy wheels along with a selection of M Performance parts are also standard for the 50 Jahre. The M Performance parts include a carbon front splitter, carbon rear spoiler and M Performance tailpipes trimmed in carbon and titanium.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
