BMW’s small X2 coupe-SUV will come to Australia later this year in a new GoldPlay colourway
BMW will add an Edition GoldPlay special variant to its 2022 X2 coupe-SUV lineup in the second quarter of 2022.
Available as an option for the X2 sDrive 20i and X2 M35i, the new Edition GoldPlay variant will debut two new colours to the X2 lineup: San Remo green metallic and Skyscraper Grey.
Australian customers will also be able to spec their Edition Goldplay in three additional colours including Black Sapphire, Alpine White or Frozen Black Metallic.
But it’s the gold trim found on the exterior mirror caps and kidney grille surround that really makes the X2 standout from the rest of the range.
Other than new exterior colours and trim, the inside has also received special treatment over a standard BMW X2.
The M leather steering wheel, along with stainless steel pedals and M-specific car key detailing underscore the Edition GoldPlay spec list.
The door sill strips feature a bespoke gold design with ‘Edition’ lettering in Galvanic gold, which has been laser engraved onto the surface.
M Sport seats feature taller bolstering than the standard X2 – and they’re finished in perforated ‘Dakota’ leather with Giallo Oro yellow contrast stitching. This stitching continues on the instrument panel, centre console and outer and centre armrests. Floor mat edging is also in Giallo Oro.
The Edition GoldPlay is available in both sDrive20i and M35i variants of the BMW X2 – both of which use a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine dubbed the ‘B48’.
The lesser of the two tunes of the B48 engine is badged sDrive20i here, making 141kW of power and 280Nm of torque.
The top of the range M35i specification uses the same engine but produces a healthier 225kW of power and 450Nm of torque.
Unlike the front-wheel drive sDrive20i, the M35i also scores BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Standard equipment on the X2 includes LED headlights, automatic tailgate, dual zone climate control and a lighting package.
Further specification includes cruise control with brake function, park distance control, collision warning with city braking, speed limit display, iDrive control system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a full colour head-up display.
Pricing and further specifications for the Edition GoldPlay models will be revealed closer to launch.
