2025 MG HS Essence review

  • Chasing Cars senior contributor Nathan Ponchard reviewed the 2025 MG HS SUV in flagship Essence trim.
  • Powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, the MG HS promises to improve on the critically panned last generation with sharper styling, new underpinning, a radically more contemporary interior and lashing of tech for its circa-$41K driveaway price.

MG HS Essence 2025 offers excellent value for money, but needs refinement.
  • Nathan found that the new MG brings excellent value, a roomy cabin and a fitter on-road character.
  • However, the midsize SUV newcomer suffers considerably with poorly calibrated assistance systems, has numerous quality control gremlins and is an improved if still middling all-round experience compared with the segment’s best.

The next issue of Car News Today will be published on Tuesday 28th January at 4.30pm Sydney time.
