Big changes are set to accompany new looks for Ford’s iconic sports car
Though a stampede might be more associated with cattle over horses, Ford is using the name for the event to reveal its next-generation pony car.
It was recently confirmed by Ford America that the seventh-generation Mustang will be revealed on September 14 at an event in Detroit called ‘The Stampede’.
According to the American brand, this event will be the final stop in the calendar for a country-wide parade around the US celebrating all six generations of Mustang.
Ford revealed news of this event alongside pictures of a very heavily camouflaged seventh-generation Mustang, which is expected to sport an updated aesthetic.
So while we know that it’ll look a little different, questions still remain surrounding what this Mustang will be powered by.
It has previously been confirmed that the Mustang will retain its burly 5.0-litre V8 engine, and the company’s CEO basically confirmed on Twitter that a six-speed manual transmission will be available.
Questions remain regarding whether or not it will come with a choice of some sort of electrification included. Hints point to some sort of hybrid V8 joining the range at a later date alongside the existing four- and eight-cylinder options.
The obvious next step in the process is to create an all-electric Mustang – which is something that might sound ridiculous, but Ford’s biggest rivals are already well down the path of electric sports cars.
Just over the weekend, Dodge revealed its Charger Daytona SRT, and over the last year or so, Chevrolet has been quite vocal about an electric version of the C8 Corvette.
With Ford’s Mustang Mach-E electric SUV already on offer in international markets, the possibility of an emissions-free Mustang pony car is more realistic than ever, but we’ll leave that up to the Blue Oval to reveal in the coming months.
