It’s been a year since Cupra launched on Aussie soil and the brand will celebrate by gifting MY23 owners with three years free servicing for Leon, Ateca and Formentor
Cupra Australia turned one overnight and the Spanish brand says it will mark its first birthday by extending three years of free servicing and one percent finance to new buyers of the Leon, Ateca and Formentor for MY23 vehicles purchased from August 1 onwards.
Over the past 12 months, the Barcelona sports car brand has launched a total of four models here in Australia – the Leon hatch, the Formentor and Ateca SUVs and the all-electric Born.
But the brand won’t be stopping there.
Cupra Australia’s director Ben Wilks said that “it’s fair to say that we’ll be doubling our deliveries by birthday number two”.
The Volkswagen-owned brand planned an eventual 7000 annual deliveries, which Mr Wilks says the brand is well on track to reach that goal.
Cupra Australia has most recently introduced its tenth Cupra garage location in Australia in Hobart Tasmania, with more garage locations planned for 2024.
The brand says that one third of Cupra orders have been for the Born and the plug-in hybrid versions of the Leon hatchback and Formentor SUV.
Cupra is going electric in a big way with the future Tavascan and Terramar SUVs coming soon, along with the eventual Cupra Urban Rebel electric hot hatch.
The brand has also said that there is “hard thought” being given to the Leon Sportstourer estate car based on the Leon hatchback.
Director Ben Wilks has said that the obvious Sportstourer station wagon variant for Australian buyers would be the all-wheel drive, 228kW flagship version.
In a statement, Wilks said that “there are other versions (of the Sportstourer) that suggest themselves. We’ll see.”
This could be a veiled reference to the plug-in hybrid version of the Leon wagon, which offers a claimed 60 kilometres of all-electric range.
The Sportstourer could be a strong competitor for the highly-acclaimed Chasing Cars Car of the Year of 2022, the Skoda Octavia.
