A fierce competitor for the Hyundai i30 N and Volkswagen Golf GTI hot hatches, the fine-handling Focus ST is set to pack a punch for 2022
The Focus ST will return to Ford showrooms in 2022 as the sole remaining grade level in the facelifted fourth-generation Focus range, with ST-Line and Active variants now discontinued in Australia.
Pricing will start at $47,490 before on-road costs for both automatic and manual versions of the standard Focus ST, and top out at $51,990 before on-road costs for the Focus ST X edition.
There has been a price rise of $2600 on all Focus ST models for 2022.
As part of its 2022 update, styling has been tweaked mainly at the front with the Focus now gaining a revised front grille that positions the Ford badge dead-centre, along with aggressively styled front headlights. New 10-spoke alloy wheel design also debut for 2022.
All Focus STs feature a 2.3-litre direct-injected ‘Ecoboost’ turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine that produces 206kW of power at 5500rpm and 420Nm of torque between 3000-4000rpm.
Ford has installed anti-lag technology in the Focus ST that holds the throttle open when the driver lifts their foot off the accelerator, improving engine response.
An electronic limited-slip differential is standard on all Focus ST models, with the base ST available with both six-speed manual and seven-speed automatic transmissions. The range-topping ST X is offered only as an automatic.
The 2022 Ford Focus ST comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, 14-way electric Ford Performance seats, LED headlights, a 13.2-inch infotainment display, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10-speaker B&O sound system, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The ST X trim adds larger 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, adaptive sports suspension, launch control and dynamic pixel LED headlights.
When tested in 2018, the Ford Focus received a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
The Focus ST comes standard with an array of safety features including AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera and front, front-side and curtain airbags.
All Ford Focus ST models need to be serviced every 12 months or 15,000 kilometres, whichever happens first.
In addition to the five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, Ford offers capped-price servicing costing $299 for each of the first four services.
