GWM has announced the starting price of its new Tank 500 SUV that will go head-to-head with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in Australia
GWM Australia has confirmed the local starting price of its upcoming hybrid SUV, the Tank 500.
In base Lux Hybrid guise, the large Chinese SUV has been priced at $66,490 driveaway, or roughly $4300 less than the current driveaway price of a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado GX.
Updated February 14th, 2023: Pricing has also now been confirmed for the high-spec Ultra Hybrid Tank 500 of the two-variant lineup, the flagship version available from $73,990 driveaway.
The Tank 500 will be uniquely positioned in the Australia new car market, with the model being the only seven-seat large hybrid SUV available on local shores.
GWM’s bigger brother to the Tank 300 SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre hybrid petrol engine that produces 255kW/648Nm and is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Unfortunately, the twin-turbo V6 engine available overseas will not be offered in Australia at launch.
As one of the new model releases Chasing Cars is looking forward to in 2024, the GWM Tank 500 SUV on Australian roads in the second quarter of this year.
