The very Land Rover-looking Ineos Grenadier will arrive in Australia later this year with the choice of three variants, starting at $84,500
The highly anticipated Ineos Grenadier four-wheel drive will land in Australia later this year with the choice of three variants, starting from $84,500 before on-road costs.
Order books will open later this month for the rough-and-ready four-wheel drive off-roader that was clearly inspired by the original Land Rover Defender.
As well as offering a base model in both two- and five-seat specification, Ineos will also offer the Grenadier in two higher grades called Trialmaster and Fieldmaster.
All models are fitted as standard with LED headlights, climate control, Apple Carplay and Android Auto along with a large 12.3-inch central touchscreen.
The Ineos Grenadier will go without crucial safety features such as AEB and lane-keep assist, however, because these are not mandatory in Australia … yet. As of March 2023, all new passenger vehicles sold in Australia must be fitted with AEB.
Pricing for the Grenadier starts at $84,500 before on-road costs for the entry-level variant and works up to a maximum price of $96,495 for the five-seat Fieldmaster Edition.
Ineos will sell the Grenadier through an initial network of 28 showrooms here in Australia, with non-negotiable, fixed prices.
Buyers will have the choice of two BMW-sourced powertrains at launch for this new off-roader – one petrol and one diesel – each with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Starting with the petrol engine, this straight-six unit should be familiar to fans of the BMW world as the B58 engine that has found its home in cars such as the Toyota GR Supra and BMW 340i, however in this guise it produces a de-tuned output of 210kW/450Nm from its 3.0-litre displacement.
The turbo-diesel engine will also be sourced from BMW and will also be 3.0-litres in size. This B57 unit produces 183kW/550Nm.
Both petrol and diesel engines will power all four wheels permanently and are mated to a eight-speed ZF gearbox also commonly featured in BMWs.
As off-roading in Australia is a well-loved and cherished hobby for many people, Ineos has tried to target these individuals by incorporating features they will love.
Highlights for the four-wheel-driving fans include Eibach coil-sprung suspension, front and rear live axles, up to three differential locks (centre lock is standard) and a two-speed transfer case.
Other features fit for a difficult off-road track include Brembo brakes, off-road and wading drive modes, Bridgestone or BF Goodrich tyre choices, and specialist four-wheel drive suspension parts from off-roading company Dana.
For those wondering about whether they will be able to tow their speed boat or caravan, the Ineos Grenadier will be able to tow 3.5 tonnes with a braked trailer.
Order books for the brand-new Ineos Grenadier will open on May 18 on the Ineos website. Interested parties will need to fork out $5000 for a deposit but this is refundable until the contract is signed.
First cars will arrive in customer’s hands here in Australia during the final quarter of 2022.
As standard for the Ineos Grenadier base model, customers will receive 17-inch wheels, a centre differential lock, front and rear skid protection plates, LED headlights and daytime running lights, roof rails, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, off-road navigation, and eight-way adjustable front Recaro seats.
The Grenadier also gets six airbags including front, front-side and curtains, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, tyre-pressure monitoring, and uphill and downhill control modes.
The middle-range Trialmaster includes front and rear differential locks, access ladder, tow hitch, auxiliary battery, compass, raised air intake and the ‘Smooth Pack’ which includes heated exterior mirrors, front parking sensors, auxiliary charge points, and an advanced anti-theft alarm and immobiliser.
The top spec Fieldmaster Edition includes all of the above plus 17-inch alloy wheels, locking wheel nuts, safari windows, leather upholstery, heated front seats and carpet floor mats.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
