Kia’s midsize electric SUV is now in Australia, priced from a very competitive $56,770 driveaway for the base Air standard range
South Korean automaker Kia has announced its first electric midsize SUV, the EV5, which will go on sale in Australia this month.
Pricing will begin at $56,770 driveaway for the base, front-drive Air, while the long-range version with larger battery (88.1kWh) will be priced at $63,990 driveaway.
The EV5 Earth will start the dual-motor offerings in Australia, priced at $68,990 driveaway. Meanwhile, the flagship EV5, the GT-Line dual-motor, will cost $75,990 driveaway.
This puts the EV5 in similar territory to the Tesla Model Y, which currently starts from $55,900 before on-road costs. Other rivals for the Kia EV5 include the BYD Atto 3 electric SUV.
You can register your interest for the EV5 through Kia Australia’s website.
The base Air will use a front-drive electric motor to produce 160kW/310Nm and will be powered by a 64.2kWh battery pack in entry, standard-range guise. WLTP range is a claimed 400km.
The Air long-range gains the same powertrain, but increases battery size to 88.1kWh to allow the variant to travel as far as 555km (WLTP), the longest electric range of the lineup.
The EV5 Earth steps things up in terms of powertrain, adding an additional electric motor on the rear axle to produce combined outputs of 230kW/480Nm. Battery size is 88.1kWh and electric range is 500km (WLTP).
The GT-Line receives no more power than the Earth that sits below it, but has slightly less range, sitting at 470km.
