This special edition that commemorates 55 years of AMG goes further than just a sticker pack
Mercedes-AMG is this year celebrating its 55th anniversary of making bonkers performance cars for the masses.
As part of the festivities, AMG will release a special edition model of its A– and CLA-Class AMG models.
Called the ‘Edition 55’, the CLA35 and A35 models will receive some special treats such as 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels, silver chrome fuel cap and gloss black trim both inside and out as well as a set of AMG decals down each side.
The special edition will also incorporate the AMG Aerodynamics package which includes an AMG rear wing, enlarged front splitter and a blade diffuser.
A Mercedes-Benz Australia spokesperson told Chasing Cars that there was “nothing to announce” when asked if the Edition 55 cars would come down under.
Inside both cars, a contrast interior of black and red flows throughout, along with other features such as an AMG Performance steering wheel with Edition 55 badge and brushed aluminum trim elements.
The Edition 55 package costs EUR 12,614 in Europe ($18,500 at the time of writing in April 2022).
Both the A35 and CLA35 models come fitted with a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 225kW of power and 400Nm of torque and can sprint to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds for the hatch.
This engine is not related to the M139 unit used in the more powerful A45 S also sold here in Australia.
Instead, the engine used in the 35 models is a more powerfully tuned version of the engine used in the A250 range and uses the codename M260. The M260 uses a single turbocharger and is 2.0-litres in capacity.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
