MG has announced that it’s flagship all-wheel drive XPower will be coming to Australia priced from $59,990 before on-road costs
MG Australia has officially confirmed the price for its all-wheel drive electric MG4 flagship called the XPower.
Priced from $59,990 before on-road costs, the XPower is priced just $4000 more expensive than the MG4 Essence 77kWh that costs $55,990 before on-road costs.
With 320kW of power and 600Nm of torque, the XPower has the same 3.8 second 0-100km/h claim as the current five-cylinder powered Audi RS3.
To get close to the same amount of electric performance as the XPower, Aussie buyers would need to spend $71,000 before on-road costs for the upcoming 2024 Tesla Model 3 long-range dual-motor that produces 366kW/493Nm.
The Polestar 2 long-range dual-motor costs $76,400 before on-road costs, or $85,400 with the optional Performance Pack. This model produces 350kW/740Nm.
MG Australia has already confirmed that its XPower flagship for the MG4 range will go on sale before the end of 2023.
MG has confirmed that the XPower will be very similar in spec to the UK-delivered car, and will also feature a lap timer for those wanting to take the vehicle to the track.
The model is likely to gain the same 61.8kWh usable battery pack as the UK-spec car with a claimed driving range of 385km (WLTP).
The XPower will join the rest of the current MG4 lineup, which includes the Excite 51, Excite 64, Essence 64 and the Essence 77 in Australia.
Chasing Cars has reviewed the MG4 and found it to be a balanced and pleasant vehicle to drive in rear-wheel drive form, at least.
So far in 2023, MG has delivered 941 examples of the MG4 to Australian buyers and the brand says that supply is strong, especially of the base model Excite 51 grade.
The MG4 range rivals the likes of more budget oriented electric vehicles, including the GWM Ora hatch and the BYD Dolphin hatch and Atto 3 small SUV.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
