The Peugeot 508 GT Sportswagon will arrive in Australia this year to join its liftback variant
Peugeot Australia has confirmed it will bring its new 508 GT in Sportswagon plug-in hybrid guise to our local market between April and the end of June this year.
The model will be launched in a single GT wagon variant that will join the already launched 508 GT Fastback plug-in hybrid, and is expected to arrive before the 508 facelift is introduced locally at a later date.
Peugeot unveiled the facelifted version of the 508 in late February, with a spokesperson telling Chasing Cars that a local confirmation could be happening soon.
“Following the global reveal of the next iteration of 508, anticipated launch details for the Australian market will be confirmed in due course.”
With the launch window of the 508 not currently known, or the facelift even fully confirmed for Australia, it’s likely that the inbound model will be the pre-facelift model, at least initially.
The plug-in hybrid system will consist of a 133kW 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 81kW electric motor for a combined system output of 165kW.
The 508 GT Sportswagon PHEV’s powertrain will be paired to Peugeot’s eight-speed automatic transmission.
Much like its related 508 GT Fastback sibling, the Sportswagon will have a 11.8kWh battery pack installed and will be able to travel a claimed 55km (WLTP) in electric-only mode.
Peugeot is now taking expressions of interest for the vehicle through either the Peugeot website or its local dealership network.
Australian pricing and further specifications are yet to be announced.
In February, Peugeot announced the facelifted 508, adapting the look of the front end with new lights and grille, as well as incorporating different wheel designs and adding subtle changes to the cabin.
The PHEV powertrain remains unchanged for 2023, however the onboard lithium-ion battery pack has risen in capacity very slightly to 12.4kWh. It’s not clear how much electric-only range is available with a fully charged battery.
The Peugeot 508 GT Sportswagon PHEV is likely to have very similar specs to the GT Fastback PHEV which comes with the following features as standard:
