Australian expressions of interest are now open for Peugeot’s electric 208 which claims the ability to travel up to 400km on a single charge
Peugeot Australia has announced it will be bringing its E-208 electric small hatchback to the Australian market in 2024.
Recently undergoing a significant facelift, the E-208 will join the E-2008 small SUV on sale in Australia, along with plug-in hybrid versions of the larger 308 hatch and 508 liftback/wagon.
“As we continue to broaden our electrified offering, the new E-208 will strengthen our range as we re-enter the small hatch market in Australia,” said Peugeot Australia’s managing director Kate Gillis.
It’s unclear if the petrol variant, known simply as the 208, will also make its way to Australia with Peugeot Australia’s public relations manager Eva Mitchell informing Chasing Cars there was currently “no further information to share” regarding combustion variants.
When launched, the E-208 could compete with other small-sized electric rivals such as the Cupra Born, the MG4 or even the Mini Electric hatch.
Australia is set to receive the facelifted E-208 which has just been revealed in Europe.
Key differences on the outside include a new, redesigned front and rear LED light signature, bright new colours including the vibrant Agueda Yellow, and new alloy wheel designs.
Inside, the 208 now features a 10.0-inch digital instrument cockpit and a revised 10.0-inch central touch screen.
For the E-208 with full-electric power, range has now increased to 400km (WLTP) thanks to a slightly larger 51kWh battery pack (48.1kWh usable).
A front-mounted, single electric motor provides 115kW of power and 260Nm of torque.
