Pixar and Porsche will celebrate 20 years of the Sally Carrera model which first debuted in the Pixar film Cars (2006)
The love interest of Lightning McQueen from Pixar’s hit animated movie Cars (2006) is getting a real-life special edition model to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the 2002 996 model.
Sally – the 996-generation Porsche 911 Carrera that was the object of NASCAR-star Lightning McQueen’s affections – has been recreated by Porsche with a one-off 992-shape Carrera built to Sally-esque specifications.
Just one ‘Sally’ will be built and will be sold at auction, with the proceeds of the sale going towards supporting young women in the US as well as the UN Refugee Agency that is assisting people fleeing Ukraine as a result of the recent violent invasion by Russia.
Porsche has collaborated with the original Cars production designer Bob Pauley to envision what this future Porsche could, and will, look like.
“We are, for the first time ever, going to build a brand new, street legal Porsche 911 inspired by the special character we created – Sally Carrera. Only one will ever be made.
“It will be auctioned with all proceeds specifically aimed to help children, supporting education programs for young girls in the U.S. through Girls Inc. and refugee families fleeing Ukraine, predominantly women and children,” said Pixar’s creative director of franchise Jay Ward.
The car will be built and then immediately auctioned off with the help of RM Sothebys. The car will feature many bespoke parts not found on a traditional 911.
The Pixar and Porsche teams could have chosen a traditional 2002 911 Carrera like what Sally is in the movies, but they have gone above and beyond to create something different with the current generation 992 Carrera.
The ‘Sally’ version will be largely cosmetic according to the sketches but the 911 Carrera, even in base tune, makes 283kW of power and 450Nm of torque from its twin-turbocharged flat-six. It’s capable of doing the 0-100m/h run in 4.2 seconds with a top speed of 293km/h.
This engine is mated to an eight-speed dual clutch PDK transmission and puts the power to the rear wheels exclusively. Standard kit includes 19-inch alloy wheels, partial leather sports seats and a GT sports steering wheel with plenty of options to choose from in typical Porsche style.
Expect to see more about this project as the time comes closer for auction.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
