The next Musso ute gets a whole new look, more power and torque and updated technologies
Ssangyong has announced its next Musso ute which has a redesigned front end, refreshed interior and more power and torque from its 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine.
Known as the Rexton Sports Culmen or Rexton Sport Khan Culmen in South Korea, the 2024 Ssangyong Musso and Musso XLV could arrive before the end of 2023.
So what’s new for the Ssangyong Musso in its latest iteration?
The biggest physical change has been to the Musso’s front grill which has been redesigned, along with Ssangyong adding more pronounced horizontal LED light boxes and different LED headlights, too.
In terms of drivetrain, the Musso will retain its 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, but power and torque outputs have been lifted to 148kW/441Nm, instead of the current outputs of 133kW/420Nm.
What we know so far is that standard features for the 2024 ute will include a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, active trailer sway control and remote smartphone access.
Active safety on the next Musso will include blind-spot monitoring, AEB, forward collision warning, adaptive high beam, driver attention monitoring and adaptive cruise control.
If these upgrades come to Australia it will be welcome news for Ssangyong as the Musso takes on a slew of new Chinese rivals like the LDV T60 and GWM Cannon Ute at the more affordable end of the ute range.
Several options are available for overseas-market Rexton Sport Khan models, including a rear sports bar that can fit a roof-top tent, gas strut tonneau cover, sliding tonneau cover, off-road side steps and underbody protection.
Also available is a floating ‘mood’ speaker for the interior, wireless phone charging, a built-in air purifier, door lamps, sliding rear bed and aluminium sports pedals.
