Just after the launch of the regular 2018 Volkswagen Polo range, Australian pricing and specifications for the 2018 Volkswagen Polo GTI have been announced. To be launched in Australia in August 2018, the sixth generation Polo GTI is, like the regular Polo, larger and better equipped than the car it replaces.
Priced from $30,990 plus on-road costs, the sixth generation Polo GTI is also faster than the car it replaces thanks to the implementation of Volkswagen’s EA888 2.0-litre turbo four, in this application producing 147kW of power and 320Nm of torque. At least initially, the Polo GTI will be only available with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Volkswagen Group Australia Managing Director Michael Bartsch said that the Polo 6 GTI is for “those who live and drive in the real world”.
“The verities that distinguish the Golf GTI and Golf R segue into this, the most potent Polo to date,” he said. “Volkswagen balances the highest levels of engineering and technology with luxury, a feat that others cannot emulate in affordable compact cars.
“The Polo 6 GTI is yet another of our hot hatches to embody the Volkswagen formula of doing everything well.”
Priced from $30,990 plus on-road costs, the 2018 Volkswagen Polo GTI is better equipped than ever before, including 17-inch alloy wheels, ‘sport select’ suspension with multiple driving modes, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a tyre pressure monitoring system, keyless entry and start with auto-folding mirrors, LED interior lighting, an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, automatic headlights and wipers and halogen headlights with daytime running lights with LED tailights.
Like Polos of the past, a number of option packages are available with the 2018 Volkswagen Polo GTI. A $1,400 Driver Assist Package includes radar cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear traffic alert and automatic braking in reverse, automatic parallel parking and Volkswagen’s proactive occupant protection system.
A $1,900 Sound & Vision Package includes Volkswagen’s Active Info Display digital dials, inbuilt satellite navigation and a 300W beats audio system.
Finally, a $3,900 Luxury Package includes different interior trim, heated front seats, LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic glass roof and tinted side and rear windows.
Metallic paint is $500.
