In a news event to rival the popularity of the new Toyota Supra, Suzuki Australia has launched in the 2019 Suzuki Jimny on to the local market, with pricing starting at $23,990 plus on-road costs. Powered by a 75kW/130Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, the Jimny is available with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
Also featuring in the Jimny is high- and low-range gearing emphasising its off-road ability, as well as a smattering of technology including autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, LED headlights with daytime running lights, automatic high beam and a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and satellite navigation.
Suzuki Australia General Manager – Automobile, Mr. Michael Pachota said the return of the legendary 4WD into Australia is a proud moment.

Priced from $23,990 plus on-road costs ($25,990 for the automatic), the 2019 Suzuki Jimny will be offered in a single specification initially in Australia. Standard equipment on the Jimny includes 15-inch alloy wheels, six airbags, cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights, automatic high beam, climate control, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and satellite navigation, hill descent control and low- and high-range gearing.
Measuring 3,654mm long with a 2,250mm long wheelbase, the 2019 Jimny is actually 30mm shorter than the previous model, which debuted in 1998. Bootspace is listed as between 88- and 377-litres, depending on seat positioning. Powering the Jimny is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 75kW of power and 130Nm of torque. It puts its power through a five-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic is optional. Suzuki lists combined fuel economy at 6.4L/100km for the manual, and 6.9L/100km for the automatic.
Suzuki Australia has reportedly received over 350 pre-orders for the 2019 Jimny, with the 1,100 unit allocation for 2019 almost a quarter sold. With just 60,000 units available for this year, Suzuki reports that there are serious waiting lists across the globe for the company’s body-on-frame baby SUV.
