Diesel power has been ditched for the 2024 CX-5 lineup, with pricing now starting from $36,560 before on-road costs for the midsize SUV
Mazda has detailed its pricing and specification of its midsize CX-5 SUV for 2024, with entry price now sitting at $36,560 before on-road costs for the front-wheel drive CX-5 Maxx.
Pricing stretches as high as $54,970 before on-road costs for the all-wheel drive CX-5 Akera turbo-petrol.
Prices are up by as much as $1220 on the outgoing 2023 Mazda CX-5, with the lowest price increase being $970.
The first of the updated SUVs are expected to arrive in January 2024.
For the CX-5, Mazda has removed the option of a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine that produced 140kW/450Nm and offered a claimed average fuel economy of 5.7L/100km.
The Mazda CX-5 competes with other midsize SUVs such as the popular Toyota RAV4, the Hyundai Tucson and the Volkswagen Tiguan.
The Mazda CX-5 continues to sell well in its segment, with a total of 16,895 units shifted so far in 2023. However, the CX-5 was still some way behind the very popular Toyota RAV4 (22,388 units sold so far in 2023).
In terms of colour choices, a new Platinum Quartz shade now replaces Sonic Silver for CX-5 cars in 2024.
Beginning with the Maxx, owners will now receive wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto touchscreen functionality, while the Touring gains 19-inch black alloy wheels and Maztex synthetic leather seat upholstery.
The G25 and G35 GT SP now gain a hands-free power tailgate and new front grille design.
The flagship Akera grade gains new interior inlays in contrast to the Dark Russet Nappa leather, replacing the wood finish fitted to the previous CX-5.
The G20 Maxx is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol four-cylinder that produces 115kW/200Nm. G25 designated models are powered by a 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder engine that produces higher outputs of 140kW/252Nm.
Finally, the G35 designated models use a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 170kW/420Nm.
All three engines are mated to a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
