Price rises but extra kit… and more performance for hot S3
The Audi A3 hatch/sedan range is trading price increases for extra features and sportier looks, plus more performance for the S3 hot-hatch.
A simplified A3 line-up arrives in early 2025 without the former mid-range 40TFSI to leave just the 35TFSI entry model and the S3 that remains the sole all-wheel-drive variant offered.
A3 pricing now starts from $54,800, a $4200 increase for the front-drive 35TFSI hatch, while the sedan version rises $4700 to $57,800 before on-road costs.
This compares with a starting prices of $56,500 for the new BMW 118 and $56,900 for the Mercedes A200.
Entry to the sporty S3 also increases by a few thousand dollars, with the ‘Sportback’ hatch and sedan costing from $78,800 and $81,800, respectively.
S3 buyers, however, are treated to some excellent upgrades that include extra power and torque for the 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder – up 17kW and 20Nm to 245kW/420Nm. The S3 also gains the torque splitter feature from the RS3 that can divert all torque to the rear axle and then distribute to the wheel with the best traction, plus larger front brakes.
Despite the price increase, the S3 hatch stays below the $82,500 sticker for its newest rival, the BMW M135 that has slightly lower outputs of 233kW and 400Nm.
An updated RS3 flagship will follow in mid 2025.
The A3 35TFSI continues to be powered by a 110kW/250Nm four-cylinder petrol engine with mild-hybrid assistance, though Audi has also increased its standard equipment – including an S-line interior package that includes sports seats (with electric driver adjust) and perforated leather steering wheel (with ‘S’ logo) that was previously an option.
The 35TFSI also gains a larger, 12.3-inch digital driver cluster.
Design changes are otherwise subtle, with the A3 adopting sportier front and rear bumpers and new-look four-rings logo, and both A3 and S3 featuring a reprofiled grille.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
