Abarth 124 Spider Monza Edition on sale in Australia

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has launched the limited edition of the Abarth 124 Spider Monza Edition in Australia. Celebrating Carlo Abarth, the man behind the famous scorpion badge, the 124 Monza Edition is available from $47,850 plus on-road costs.

With just 30 examples available, the Monza Edition adds extra equipment to the Abarth 124 Spider such as the Visibility Pack with LED headlights, blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic alert and LED daytime running lights as well as the Record Monza dual-mode exhaust system, the 124 Spider has never been priced or equipped better in Australia.

“The legacy of Carlo Abarth has driven the production of some of the world’s most exciting motor vehicles and this Monza Special Edition continues the realisation of his passion,” said Fulvio Antonelli, Director of Abarth Brand Australia.

“Equally at home on urban roads as well as on race tracks, the Abarth 124 spider is attracting a new generation of enthusiasts in Australia with its performance, technology, comfort and ease of driving. It combines the authentic roadster experience with exemplary performance, technology, safety and distinctive Italian design,” he added.

Based on the standard 124 Spider, the Abarth 124 Spider Monza Edition uses the same 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as the Abarth 595 hot hatch. With 125kW of power and 250Nm of torque, the car is capable of a 6.8 second 0-100km/h sprint and a top speed of 232km/h. Based on the current generation of Mazda MX-5 and even made in the same production facility in Japan, the Abarth 124 Spider offers more power and torque, though weighs slightly more. Like the MX-5, the Abarth 124 offers six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission options.

Limited edition cars are all about extra standard equipment and the Abarth 124 Spider Monza Edition is no different. For the extra outlay over the standard model, the Monza Edition adds the $2,590 Visibility Pack with cornering LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, blind-spot monitoring with rear traffic alert and rear parking sensors. The Monza Edition also adds the company’s Record Monza dual-mode exhaust system for a ‘true Abarth engine sound’, as well as black and red leather upholstery with red stitching and Abarth logos in the headrests. Each Monza Edition also has a brushed aluminium numbered plaque with a map of the Monza circuit.

The Abarth 124 Spider Monza Edition is available in three different colours, all of which pay homage to 124 Spider wins in European rallies – Turini 1975 White, Costa Brava 1972 Red and San Marino 1972 Black on offer. Each 124 Spider Monza Edition also features red coloured mirror caps, which offers ‘more panache’ according to Abarth.

The Abarth 124 Spider Monza Edition is on sale now in Australia, but with only 30 units on offer, buyers better be quick. Priced from $47,850 plus on-road costs, the Monza Edition is $5,860 more expensive than the regular Abarth 124 Spider, though it can be bought for $46,950 drive away during June – just $700 more than the option-free regular 124’s drive away pricing. Option a regular 124 Spider to the equipment level of the Monza Edition and it costs north of $51,000 once on-road costs are added into the equation.
