Australia will finally get Ingolstadt’s warmed-through Q2 SUV in May with an impressive level of specification.
Audi Australia has confirmed that the facelifted 2021 Audi SQ2 small SUV will land in Australia in May this year, priced from $64,400.
The SQ2 is the halo model of the Q2 range and, although it has been available in other markets since 2018, Australians have had to wait.
When it lands, the SQ2 will have to deal with plenty of new competitors, including the BMW X2 M35i, Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 and Mini Countryman JCW.
Underneath the bonnet, the SQ2 packs a turbocharged two-litre four-cylinder engine with 221kW of power and 400Nm of torque hooked up to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and all four wheels.
That sees the new SQ2 get from 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds which is, oddly, one tenth slower than the pre-facelift car. The SQ2 is also 7kW down on power compared to the new S3 hatch and sedan with which it shares an engine.
Audi’s new SQ2 sits above the Q2 40 TFSI in the range, but below it in stature with 20mm lower sports suspension and 19-inch alloy wheels shod in grippier rubber. Matrix LED headlights with sequential indicators, red brake calipers, athletic body kit and quad tailpipes help elevate the SQ2 visually.
Cabin equipment is generous with a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, Bang & Olufsen sound system, flat-bottom steering wheel and quilted Nappa leather-appointed sports front seats.
An 8.3-inch infotainment screen is standard; the SQ2 retains the more old-school MMI system with a rotary dial instead of a touchscreen. Wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
All Australian SQ2s are equipped with adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, traffic-sign recognition and AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection.
Audi is offering nine paint colour choices for the SQ2, including the intriguing Apple Green hue pictured.
The new SQ2 will land in May with Australian pricing starting from $64,400 before on-road costs.
