The Silverado was always a capable beast off road but now Chevrolet has a specialised version for those who really want to get serious.
Australian distributor GMSV has unveiled the Chevrolet Silverado LT Trail Boss which offers a new grade to the full-size ute range which is both cheaper and more capable off road.
Key to the Silverado LT Trail Boss’ claim as a more capable offroader is the factory-fitted suspension lift that adds 25mm more height at the front and 30mm in the rear.
Chevrolet has fitted Rancho monotube shock absorbers which it says gives the 2.5-tonne ute better damping for enhanced adaptability over changing surface conditions.
Giving the Silverado LT Trail Boss a little more off road presence is the addition of twin-spoke 18-inch black alloy wheels along with a black front and rear bumper that contrast with the nine-colours on offer.
Chevrolet has kept the 6.2-litre V8 petrol engine making 313kW of power and 624Nm of torque, which is paired to a 10-speed torque converter automatic that enables it to tow up to 4.5-tonnes braked.
The Silverado naturally comes with a 4WD system with hill descent control, while skid plates and a heavy-duty air filter provide additional protection in the rough stuff.
Despite the more rugged take on the Silverado, Chevrolet has kept a suite of creature comforts including a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel. The front row also receives a heating function and 10-way electric adjustability for the driver only.
The Silverado LT Trail Boss is priced at $106,990 (before on-road costs), which is still expensive but slightly cheaper than the LTZ Premium at $112,990 (before on-roads), which adds features such as leather upholstery.
However, the safety suite remains solid with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert along with front and rear parking sensors.
GMSV encouraged those who wish to buy Silverado LT Trail Boss to place their order early to secure a place in line, with deliveries expected to take place midway through 2021, with the larger Silverado 2500 slated to follow soon after.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
