A series of price adjustments have been made to the Cupra Formentor — but news is mixed for Australian buyers
Cupra has announced a price adjustment for the Formentor with the wagon now featuring a lower cost of entry, though higher grades are now more expensive.
A reduction of $700 will see the Formentor V start at $49,990 before on-road costs with a national driveaway price of $54,490.
However, the Formentor VZ has increased by $1200 with a new price of $54,690 before on-road costs with a $59,490 national driveaway price.
The VZe plug-in hybrid and flagship VZx have seen an increase of $2000 with the pair now starting at $62990 and $64,990 respectively, with the latter featuring a driveaway price of $68,990.
Exact driveaway pricing for the Formentor VZe changes depending on the state of purchase, varying from $65,990 in the ACT to $68,990 in WA. A full list can be found below.
In addition to an increase on the base price, Cupra has confirmed that the leather and power package costs an extra $500 but will now include a 360-degree camera.
Cupra has also published new prices for its Leon hatch, which has seen a price decrease across most of its range, while the Ateca has received a slight price bump for the new year.
Australian buyers who currently have a Cupra on order have also been assured that they will be protected from the price increase.
Cupra offers the Formentor line-up starting with the V, an entry-level grade that features a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 140kW/320Nm mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an AWD system.
Stepping up to the VZ increases the outputs to 180kW/370Nm at the expense of the AWD system, with the Formentor now sending all its power through the front wheels.
Buyers who opt for the Formentor VZe receive a smaller 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with milder outputs of 110kW/250Nm though it’s assisted by an 85kW/330Nm electric motor.
Together, the pair have a maximum system output of 180kW/400Nm which is set to the ground via a six-speed transmission.
Cupra also claims that the Formentor VZe can travel up to 67km exclusively on electric power from its 12.8kWh battery before the petrol engine needs to kick in to provide added range.
The flagship VZx has outputs of 228kW/400Nm which is sent to all four wheels via the same seven-speed dual-clutch that is found throughout the rest of the range.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
