Both short- and long-wheelbase options will be available in Australia from the second quarter of 2024
Ford Australia has announced the pricing and specification of its all-new combustion-powered Ford Transit Custom commercial van.
Set for a launch in Australia during the second quarter of 2024, the new Ford Transit Custom will be available in both short- and long-wheelbase guises.
Pricing starts at $55,990 before on-road costs for the Trend short wheelbase, or $56,990 before on-road costs for the Trend long-wheelbase variant.
With a clear focus on the commercial space, the new Ford Transit Custom uses an “all-new platform”, independent rear suspension and a re-designed cabin.
The Ford Transit Custom will compete in the busy commercial van space with other rivals such as the Volkswagen Transporter, the Peugeot Expert and the LDV V80.
An all-electric version of the Transit Custom, called the Ford e-Transit Custom, is also expected in Australia sometime in 2024 as part of Ford Australia’s EV rollout.
As standard, both wheelbase lengths will come fitted with the following features:
As an option, buyers will be able to spec their Transit Custom with SVO paint (58 different colours, priced at $1500) and dual side-sliding doors ($1000).
Frozen White is a no-cost option, however Prestige paint for the colours Agate Black, Magnetic and Moondust Silver will be an additional $700.
The new Ford Transit Custom has not yet been awarded a safety score from ANCAP, but is likely to be tested soon.
The van features the following standard safety features:
The new Ford Transit Custom is powered by a 2.0-litre ‘Ecoblue’ four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 125kW/390Nm. This engine is mated to a eight-speed automatic transmission that powers the front wheels.
Ford Australia quotes an average fuel consumption figure of 8.0L/100km for this engine.
Four drive modes are standard for the new Transit Custom, including Normal, Eco, Slippery and Towing.
The new Ford Transit Custom will be able to carry a maximum payload of 1269kg in short-wheelbase guise, with the long-wheelbase version capable of hauling 1223kg.
The short-wheelbase van’s rear load area has a total capacity of 5.8 cubic metres, with the long wheelbase obviously having a larger 6.8 cubic metre storage capacity.
Towing capacity for the van is rated at 2500kg for both variants, an increase over the last generation of the model.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
