GWM is targeting buyers who want a harder-core off-road-focused ute that could rival the likes of the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain
GWM Australia has pulled the covers off its new flagship Ute Cannon model, the XSR, that will undercut pricier key rivals such as the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain.
Priced from $52,990 driveaway, the new XSR ute is the most expensive GWM ute offered in Australia, but will feature several enhancements over a standard Ute Cannon. It’s considerably cheaper than the $67,500 Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain or the $67,990 Ford Ranger Wildtrak 2.0.
The XSR version adds a new part-time four-wheel-drive system that, for the first time, features both front- and rear-axle locking differentials.
Also new to the ute is a crawl function, along with a ‘turn-assist-by-braking’ feature. The front stabiliser bar has been revised, while the newcomer also features exterior underbody chassis guards and unique fender guards.
The new GWM Ute Cannon XSR is available to order in Australia now.
GWM has chosen a new 18-inch alloy wheel design for the XSR which has been fitted with a 265/65 R19 all-terrain tyre.
Unique features for the XSR include red brake callipers, a new front grille, a sports bar, snorkel and steel front and rear bumpers. A sunroof will also be available for the XSR variant for the first time in the Ute Cannon lineup.
The existing 2.0-litre turbo-diesel powertrain for the XSR variant remains the same as the rest of the Ute Cannon range, meaning that outputs will stay at 120kW/400Nm.
The Cannon XSR is covered by GWM’s seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, along with five years roadside assist and five years of capped price servicing.
All prices listed are driveaway.
