Prices rise slightly for the updated 2017 Hyundai Sonata, but the Korean brand has told Chasing Cars that plenty of extra equipment help to justify that.
Hyundai made significant local investments in the Sonata’s ride and handling tune when the model was introduced last year – and now the mid-size sedan gets the tyres to match.
All models see their rubber significantly upgraded for 2017. Active ($30,590) and Elite ($38,350) models receive Continental Conti Premium Contact tyres measuring 215/55R17. The Premium flagship ($45,490) is uprated, impressively, to Michelin Pilot 3 sneakers, measuring 235/45R18.
The additions don’t stop there, with all Sonatas also getting steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters for the six-speed automatic gearbox.
The Active model increases $600 in price.
A $1,360 increase for the Elite sees additional features upgraded, with the new model stocked with automatic wipers, heated front seats, front parking sensors to complement the rears, and an electric parking brake.
A sunroof can now be fitted as a cost option to the Elite, and remains standard on the Premium – which sees its cost head north by a considerable $3,500.
That jump has added advanced safety features, though, which Chasing Cars called for last year: as standard, the Sonata Premium now has blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, and active cruise control.
A new colour called Shade Bronze has been made available.
The 2017 model year Sonata is available now.
