Second-generation compact SUV is offered in both hybrid and petrol-only formats, with drive-away pricing starting from as low as $26,990.
The MG ZS was Australia’s best-selling small SUV in 2024 and retains high popularity.
It was released in second-generation form late last year, launching with a hybrid drivetrain only but that has been recently joined by a more affordable range of petrol models.
There are base Excite and higher-spec Essence trim grades for both the Hybrid+ and petrol ZS SUVs, with the petrol range topped with an Essence Turbo featuring a more powerful engine.
The turbo petrol engine produces 125kW and 275Nm compared with 81kW and 140Nm for the standard 1.5-litre. It requires more expensive premium unleaded, however, and official fuel economy is slightly worse – 6.9 litres per 100km v 6.7L/100km
In the ZS Hybrid+, the petrol-electric drivetrain teams together a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and electric motor, producing combined outputs of 158kW and 465Nm. Official fuel consumption is rated at 4.7 litres per 100km.
The 2025 ZS is just over 4.4 metres long after adding nearly 11cm to its length compared with the previous ZS. The wheelbase gains just 2.5cm of that, width is out by just under a centimetre, and the SUV’s height drops by 18mm.
Boot space makes a big gain – increasing by 84 litres to 443L, or by 270L to 1457L with the 60-40 rear seats folded.
Rivals for the MG ZS include the GWM Haval Jolion, Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, Nissan Qashqai, Subaru Crosstrek, and both the Toyota C-HR and Toyota Corolla Cross.
There’s no direct replacement for the fully electric MG ZS EV. That role will instead be filled by the new ES5 electric compact SUV that is based on the MG4 electric hatchback.
Current drive-away pricing (as of 24th March 2025) is included below, though MG Australia may adjust its offers at any time so best to check its official website for latest pricing.
