MG has managed to undercut the likes of Hyundai and Mazda with its next sedan model, the new MG5
MG has announced pricing and specifications for its new MG5 sedan, a model that will competitively undercut the current Hyundai i30 sedan.
Starting from just $24,990 driveaway for the Vibe variant, and $28,990 driveaway for the flagship Essence, the MG5 undercuts the $29,605 Hyundai i30 Sedan Active, as well as other rivals such as the $27,890 Kia Cerato sedan (current NSW driveaway prices).
The Mazda 3 sedan, meanwhile, is much more expensive, at $38,669 driveaway for the base Touring model.
The MG5 will come with the option of either an 84kW/150Nm 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine, or a more powerful 119kW/250Nm 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the flagship Essence.
The naturally-aspirated engine will use a CVT automatic transmission, whereas the turbocharged engine will be mated with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The MG5 sedan will be backed by a seven-year/ unlimited kilometre warranty.
A spokesperson from MG Australia has confirmed to Chasing Cars that the MG5 is now on sale in Australia, with the new model currently in port and ready to be delivered immediately to dealerships across the country.
While we don’t know all of the specifications just yet, what we do know is that the MG5 will come with the following features:

Essense adds:
Six exterior colours including Dover White, Royal yellow, Diamond Red, Misty Grey, Black Pearl and Brixton Blue will be available at launch.
Although currently unconfirmed for the Australian market, it’s certainly possible that MG could bring an electric MG5 to our market .
In overseas regions, MG currently sells a wagon version of the MG5 with full-electric power and an estimated 400km of range. A single, front-mounted electric motor produces 130kW of power and 280Nm of torque.
Battery sizes available are either 46kWh usable, or 57.4kWh usable.
All prices listed are driveaway.
