Nissan Pathfinder 2022: Australian pricing and specifications released for new-generation Pathfinder large SUV

The Pathfinder SUV will arrive in Australia in four grades: ST, ST-L, Ti and Ti-L and will start from $54,190 before on-road costs

The new Nissan Pathfinder is almost on Australian soil, and with it, the large SUV will bring four variants and will start from $54,190 before on-road costs – or about $6500 more than a base model Toyota Kluger.

The top spec Pathfinder Ti-L is priced from $77,890, which is an increase of $10,750 over the flagship of the previous generation.

Despite the price hike, Nissan says the new fifth-generation Pathfinder has been extensively redesigned and has struck a more premium aesthetic than its predecessor.

A new nine-speed ZF automatic transmission replaces the outgoing car’s CVT transmission. It remains mated to a 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol V6 engine that produces 202kW of power and 340Nm of torque. The V6 engine’s outputs are unchanged from the previous-generation Pathfinder.

For four-wheel drive variants, the Pathfinder has received a new system that features direct coupling – torque transfer on the clutch pack using oil pressure – to provide “confident, immediate take-off in low-traction situations”.

No hybrid engine is available in Australia for the new Pathfinder. A petrol-electric powertrain was briefly available with the previous-generation SUV in Australia, but a hybrid setup is not currently offered globally for the vehicle.

The only available engine is the 3.5-litre atmo V6 petrol engine

Several driving modes will feature, also, including Standard, Sport, Eco, Snow, Sand, Mud/Rut and Tow, the last of which could be helpful for a large majority of buyers. On the topic of towing, the new Pathfinder will be able to pull up to 2700kg with a braked trailer.

Inside the cabin, the Pathfinder features a new 10.8-inch head-up display which is standard across all variants in the range, while wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto are also standard fitment. Four USB outlets, as well as two 12-volt sockets, help aid functionality in the cabin of the Pathfinder.

The new Nissan Pathfinder will compete with other large SUVs in the segment, such as the Toyota Kluger, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento and Mazda’s CX-9.
