The plug-in hybrid variant of the Peugeot 308 is now on sale but it comes at a substantial price increase over the petrol-only model
Peugeot Australia has released local pricing and specification for the 308 GT Sport Hatch Plug-in Hybrid.
Starting from $64,990, the GT Sport Hatch Plug-in Hybrid is now the range-topping variant in the 308 line-up, which is made up of three hatches, and a single wagon.
Compared to the equivalent petrol-only GT Premium model, the plug-in hybrid costs an additional $16,000 and sits between the Cupra Leon VZe at $59,990 (before on-roads) and Mercedes-Benz A250e at $68,989 in terms of price.
The 308 GT Sport Hatch Plug-in Hybrid is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 132kW/250Nm. It’s paired with a single electric motor on the front axle that produces 81kW and 320Nm of torque.
Combined, this PHEV power plant produces 165kW and 360Nm of torque, which is sent exclusively to the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
With a 12.4kWh battery onboard, the 308 PHEV is capable of driving up to 60km on electric power alone, according to the WLTP testing cycle.
As for fuel economy, Peugeot claims that it’s capable of a combined figure of just 1.3L/100km.
As is the case with all PHEVs, it’s worth noting that this figure is only achievable with a full battery, so a real-world figure with a discharged battery will be significantly different.
On the inside, standard equipment includes an alcantara-accented nappa leather upholstery, with power adjustable and massaging seats. There’s also a panoramic sunroof.
As for technology, a wireless phone charger, a 10-inch digital cluster, and a 10-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto is also included.
