Arriving this month about 12 months behind its five-seat sibling, the facelifted Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace brings a long list of new tech and safety upgrades
Volkswagen Australia has confirmed the facelifted version of its seven-seat Tiguan Allspace midsize SUV will arrive on our shores later this month, at the end of May.
The three-row 2022 Tiguan Allspace starts at $44,590 before on-road costs and shares many of the upgrades that arrived on Australian shores for the shorter-wheelbase, five-seat Tiguan in mid-2021, but with the additional practicality of a sixth and seventh seat.
Speaking to Chasing Cars, Volkswagen Australia product and PR communications manager Daniel DeGasperi confirmed the Tiguan Allspace would arrive in Australian dealerships in May.
Despite its additional seats, the Tiguan Allspace is still classified as a midsize SUV and splits the difference in terms of price between the closely-related Skoda Kodiaq (from $48,540) and the competing Mercedes-Benz GLB (from $64,088).
Major updates to the Tiguan Allspace include a revised front and rear design with newly-designed LED headlights fitted as standard but more significant changes have been made to the interior which features a smattering of enhanced technology.
The Tiguan Allspace has re-adjusted its line-up to reflect that of the regular Tiguan with the range consisting of the entry-level Life followed by the Elegance and top-spec R-Line with a choice of petrol and diesel engine options.
Pricing kicks off at $44,590 (before on-roads) for the Tiguan Allspace 110TSI Life, reflecting a $4600 price increase over the pre-facelifted model.
The redesigned interior features a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display fitted as standard along with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with built-in navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Volkswagen also includes a wireless phone charger, a power tailgate, three-zone climate control, heated and folding mirrors and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Buyers can build on this feature list with the $5500 luxury pack which adds a panoramic sunroof and Vienna Leather-appointed upholstery with heated and ventilated seats for the front seats and power adjustment for the driver.
The standard safety suite includes front and rear parking sensors, front AEB with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and driver fatigue monitoring.
Stepping up to the Tiguan Allspace Elegance adds larger 19-inch wheels, heating for the front seats and the second-row outboard seats, while only the front occupants score seat ventilation.
The cabin also scores a larger 9.2-inch touchscreen, ambient lighting, tinted rear windows and adaptive cruise control. For an additional $2600 buyers can add a head-up display, 360-degree camera and Harman Kardon premium sound system.
Sitting at the top of the range is the Tiguan Allspace R-Line which adds a more sporting exterior body kit paired with 20-inch wheels. Inside, buyers net an R-Line steering wheel with haptic feedback buttons, progressive steering and Vienna leather upholstery.
Volkswagen offers the entry-level Life grade with the 110TSI and AWD-equipped 132TSI, while the Elegance and R-Line grades are offered with either the 162TSI petrol or 147TDI diesel.
The ‘110TSI’ engine is a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder unit producing 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque which feeds grunt to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Engineers have paired to rest of the engine options with AWD and the more refined seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, with the 132TSI upping the displacement to 2.0-litres and outputs to 132kW/320Nm.
The 162TSI uses the same turbocharged engine in a higher state of tune (162kW/350Nm) while the 147TDI is equipped with a 147kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine.
Mechanical changes have been made to the diesel engine since the Allspace last appeared in Australia, with the 2.0-litre TDI unit now making 7kW of additional power.
The Tiguan Allspace remains covered by the same five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty that applies to all Volkswagen vehicles sold in Australia.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
