Toyota LandCruiser 200 Review 2015

Good points

  • Effortless, awesome V8 diesel
  • Lots of toys in the quiet interior
  • Command of (and off) the road

Needs work

  • Less expensive models have low-rent cabins
  • Huge size means it’s impractical in the city
  • Less wieldy than the smaller Prado off road
Toyota LandCruiser Review

Though some have argued the Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series is the softest in the model’s history, the fact is that the largest Toyota remains one of the most unstoppable vehicles on the road. They don’t come much bigger than the LandCruiser, nor more capable in any given driving environment. Considering how harsh and inhospitable much of the Australian landscape is, it’s not hard to understand why these machines continue to sell in huge numbers. If there’s a country where the LandCruiser is relevant, it’s ours.

While plenty of Australians in rural areas benefit from a vehicle like the LandCruiser, does it have relevance for the majority of SUV buyers whose commute isn’t long and treacherous? We borrowed a high-end LandCruiser Sahara to find out, spending a mix of time in both town and country. While the big Toyota makes motoring in the most difficult terrain very simple, does its sheer size and heft make it impossible for town duty?  We found it massive but liveable, but overall, a deeply isolating and relaxing driving experience.  You’re left with a resounding peace of mind, knowing you can take this thing anywhere, in comfort.

ChasingCars.com.au borrowed this vehicle for our Toyota LandCruiser 200 review:

  • 2015 Toyota LandCruiser Sahara (top trim), with the 4.5-litre turbodiesel V8 (195kW/650Nm) and six-speed automatic, in Graphite, with black leather, priced at $113,900 before on-road costs.
